Why aren’t bloggers and bizmums working together?

Written by Alli Price

I am a mum in business and I also have a blog on my site. I run my own mum in business events and have been to brunches and conferences for bloggers.

Do you know what I have seen?

A whole bunch of mums, or at the very least, women who:

  • are struggling to discern themselves against a whole lot of competition
  • would be thankful of support
  • are starting out with little or no money
  • would like to make some money
  • need exposure for who they are and what they do.
This is on both sides of the fence, it’s like a mirror.
When I am at either type of event there is always one question that constantly confounds me – why don’t mums in business and bloggers work together? It actually amazes me there aren’t blogger/biz mum partnerships all over the joint.
The reasons?
  • mums in business just starting out find it hard to access traditional media – why not bloggers who are way more approachable and easy to contact? Who’s reach isn’t as wide as a national magazine but who’s requirements aren’t as strict as a national magazine?
  • bloggers need to attract readers to their blog and a great giveaway works. When starting out, it’s tough attracting the attention of national brands but there are plenty of bizmums with amazing products and services just dying for exposure.
blogger and mum in business partnership, mum in business, work at home mum, mumpreneur, wahm
The best part about it all? As you’ll both have the same target market you can utilise your social media streams to shout out about one another and really send great new prospects each other’s way.
Plus, you can grow together, support one another and build relationships that are much more meaningful than you ever will with a brand or a magazine.
What’s not to like?
So, I’ve decided to try and help everyone develop these relationships by popping a Review and Giveaway Directory on my blog to achieve exactly this. You can register as a blogger or a mum in biz, let everyone know what you do and who you’d like to work with and others can search to find you.
Hopefully, this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.
Cheers, Alli x

  2. Once I get my business running, I will be coming here to find bloggers to pimp me :)

  3. Hi Alli, I am visiting via the DP Carnival. What a great idea! I am going to register. I have found a similar issue to Glowless. I would love to support my local businesses and producers by promoting their products but most of them do not know what a blog is and therefore, are unwilling to give it a go. I thought people would jump at the chance of any new exposure. Thanks again.

Kyrstie@A Fresh Legacy » Hi Kyrstie, thank you so much for the reply. I completely understand where you’re coming from – thus my eternal mission to help all involved understand what can be achieved and how. If you would like to write a guest post on the different opportunities to be gained from working with bloggers I would love to shout it from the rooftops! Let me know if you’d be interested. Cheers, Alli x

  4. This is a fabulous idea Alli! Will get your badge up on my site.

Hey Allie, I’ve been trying to do a bit of this over the past year. Happy to be involved and supporting mums who are supporting themselves :)

  6. This is a great idea as a way to connect mums in business and bloggers. I have been thinking a lot about what direction I will be taking my blog next year and I think I’d prefer to work with and endorse WAHM, small businesses and so forth. Some bloggers offer small private advertising slots (not me currently) on their sites, for very reasonable prices. This is another way that businesses could get exposure through bloggers

Kate @ Puddles and Gumboots » I agree Kate – it’s win, win! I hope you register on the directory and we can get you working with some fab mums in biz! Cheers, Alli x

  7. Tracey says:

Fantastic idea Alli. I’ll be registering pronto. I’d love to work with more mums in biz.

  8. Glowless says:

I have approached so many small businesses that are trying to break in to the market and sadly only a handful of the ones I’ve approached have had any idea what a blog was and instead pumped their money in to yellow pages listings.

    • Alli says:

Glowless » I think part of the problem lovely is that a lot mums in biz have no idea what bloggers do. They’re so busy trying to set up and run their own business that they don’t realise the opportunities and haven’t had the time to learn. At least now there will be my directory and you’ll know any mums on that would be so happy to work with you x

  9. Hi Alli,

Great idea! I was going to post something on here soon. Still new to this forum…

I’ve added my link, but not sure if it worked.

  10. Alli says:

You could also offer bloggers a review in exchange for a badge on your site for 1 – 2 months. Exposure for them to a whole new market x

The directory is a great idea Alli, I’ll be putting my details up later today. I always see callouts for products, but find it hard to get reviewed for a service. Maybe this will help.
